About Hyde Park Stables & Ellie Hall McAteer

Hyde Park Stables is one of the last standing mews with horses in Central London. Historically, Hyde Park has been the most famous equestrian venue in England for over 300 years. When Mr. Briggs’ the stable’s previous owner decided to retire in 2018, Ellie Hall McAteer just couldn’t stand the thought of Hyde Park Stables going to developers.

The stables cater to adults and children, from four years of age and older and welcome clients of all experience levels including those that have never been around horses before.

Horses have always been a part of Ellie’s life. Both her parents work in the industry and her sister Jodie Hall McAteer competes regularly on the international Show Jumping circuit. When the opportunity came along to take on Hyde Park Stables, Ellie immediately saw the opportunity to turn her passion for horses and London into a business.

Ellie hopes that keeping the horses in Central London will help make the sport accessible to people in the city as well as encourage more people to take up an outdoor activity and experience the love of horses.

When it’s time for a break form the hustle and bustle of Central London, you can find Ellie retreating to her family Show Jumping farm in Hertfordshire with the horses for some well deserved downtime creating the perfect balance of both worlds.

Rotten Row in London's Hyde Park, has been the most famous equestrian venue in England for 300 years.

We ride horses in Hyde Park and beside The Serpentine lake, in the most beautiful setting for horse riding in a capital city anywhere in the world.

Learn To Ride.

We have dedicated team of staff who escort and teach on rides outside in the park and lessons in the arena.

We usually start riders who want to learn with lessons rides through Hyde Park as it’s easier to learn the basics in a more comfortable environment. Once you have mastered the basics and can ride independently through the park, we will move into the outdoor arena where you will be working towards more advanced movements.

At Hyde Park Stables we welcome visitors with no experience of horse riding to experience seeing part of London on horseback.

How Experienced Are You?

All rides are escorted by our instructors. All riders will start on the lead rein until the instructor has assessed your capability.

Novice riders can be kept safely on the lead rein whereas more experienced riders can have the opportunity to ride independently. It is important to honestly state your riding ability and experience so we can match you with your perfect horse and everyone can have a more enjoyable ride. Although we take all reasonable precautions for your safety, you must accept that riding is a risk sport.

Horse riding through Hyde Park is a wonderful experience, we hope you enjoy riding with us.
